Description

"Ancestors and Hero Cultus" is Volume 1, Number 1 (Winter 2014) of the Walking the Worlds journal. This inaugural issue of Walking the Worlds explores the practice of both ancestor veneration and hero cultus in contemporary polytheisms. A core practice in most major polytheistic traditions both ancient and modern, ancestor veneration is continuing to gain ground within contemporary Pagan and polytheistic religious movements. Articles in this issue explore its relevance and praxis within Kemetic Orthodoxy, Celtic polytheism, Heathenry, Bacchic Orphism, and more. The continuity of thought and approach between the religious sensibilities of the pre-Christian world and modern polytheistic religions today specifically with respect to Hero Cultus is likewise explored.
