Description

Excerpt from American Book-Prices Current, Vol. 24: A Record of Books, Manuscripts and Autographs Sold at Auction in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, From September, 1917, to August, 1918, Being the Season 1917-1918 Mr. Luther S. Livingston compiled the work for many years, and since his death the work has been carried on by his former assistant, Miss C. E. Dyett, who has compiled the present vol ume. This record of sales of the season of 1912-18 was already nearly completed and partly in the printer's hands when Mr. Dodd retired from active business and transferred the publica -tion to them, so that it will be found uniform in every respect with the former volumes. This season's record is undoubtedly one of the most interest ing that have so far been recorded. In the first place the United States was actively engaged in the great war, and despite the Liberty Loans and the great changes in the commercial world, go'od books not only held their value but also their percentage of increase. It will be noticed that of the many items that came up for sale the majority were unusually good, and this improve ment in the quality together with the maintenance of values is a sincere compliment to the American collector.
