The first regular agency was established in the fall of 1842, at Castleton, Vermont, with Geo. D. Spencer as agent. Messrs. Virgil and Jacobs continued to gether until February, 1843, when the lat ter becoming discouraged, withdrew, his place being taken by a Mr. Howard, who also withdrew after eight months' service.
