This plan was also adopted because the Grand Traverse region was, generally Speaking, the pioneer section of Northern Michigan. In the county histories are brought out, in detail, the physical fea tures of Northern Michigan boldly sketched ln the general history and especially the great central plateau is fully set forth, the histories trac ing in special sections of the country the distinct ridge, or water-shed, which separates such great systems as those of the Manistee, Muskegon.
