His appointment to the Chair of Chemistry, in the Military Academy of West Point, shortly after the first volume of that work was published, unavoidably interrupted his botani cal pursuits; but he has now resumed them with unabated zeal. He trusts that with his present means of research and accumulated materials, the remainder of the work will at least equal that which has already been published, and received with so much indulgence by our botanists.
