First of all, Legion itself has proved to be one of the most enjoyable
expansions that I can remember. The way that the zones work in regard to
adaptive levelling, so you never have to worry about over-levelling and it being
too easy, is a great move – though admittedly I do feel miscellanous
creatures should cap lower, to make it easier to explore at 110. The artifact
weapons add another layer of progression on top, and the class halls provide a
strong thematic thread to almost the same level as Garrisons did in
Warlords – however I do miss the ability to customise things more, and the
ability to unlock more followers through quests or encounters out in the quest
zones, instead of just through specific Order Hall quests (which inevitably lead
to dungeon content, which is not for everyone). Storyline-wise, of course there
are flaws – for the overarching storyline you have to just go with the flow
and ignore the more obvious plot holes and contrivances. But for the specific
threads within the zones, there are some very detailed stories being told, and
some very powerful moments. There are a great many call-backs to previous
expansions and classic world zones and characters, which is a joy for those of
us who have been long-time players. There are certainly things I'd rather had
been implemented differently, especially around the new profession skills, but
overall the game makes for a very satisfying package. And the World Quest system
means that you're never short of something different to do every day, even
before you start levelling Alts through the content. Before levelling other
characters, there is of course also the new Demon Hunter hero class to enjoy,
with a detailed introductory quest line similar to the Death Knights of WotLK,
filling in many of the blanks of the interceding years, and giving a glimpse of
what's to come in the storyline. As for the Collector's Edition extras, I've
not yet watched the behind the scene DVD, but the mousepad is a good quality,
and the in-game extras are fun, as you'd expect, though nothing amazing. It
would be nice if some sort of other in-game item like an Artifact skin was also
part of the bundle, or some extra physical item such as a miniature were
included to add a bit of extra physical value for display sake. The soundtrack,
though, is always a big plus for me, and is one of the best yet – I almost
wish it were a double-disc set so more extended versions of the themes were
included. That, along with the art book, were the main reasons for me ordering
the CE, and they definitely deliver, with the art book showing in great detail
the design process for the various new zones and units.
