Weekend in L.A. by George Benson was recorded live in September and October
of 1977 in the West Hollywood Roxy Theatre, and released in 1978. It was
placed first in
the Jazz Albums and R&B Albums list during 1978. The band gets deep into
the four-on-the-floor Funk. Benson's rhythmic instincts on guitar are as sharp
as ever. George's voice sounds more throaty and soul-oriented than before. The
balance between vocals and instrumentals is even. It was recorded with unusually
lively crowds. Weekend in L.A.
introduced “On Broadway”, an extended stomping version of the Drifters' hit.
RELEASE: 30–3–2015 The band existed amongst others of Stanley Banks, Jorge
Dalto, Ronnie Foster, Harvey Mason and Phil Upchurch.
