Strictly Limited To 300 Copies
In the early '00s Auckland's live music scene felt like it was hanging by a
thread – a relic being swamped by time. The Mint Chicks arrived just when we
were ready to lower the casket. They played constantly, always chaotic and
compelling. Every time you thought you knew where they stood and what they meant
they'd move when your back was turned and appear somewhere entirely different.
It was a habit they'd never drop. The early EPs were bright and brief,
threatening to turn them into media darlings. They didn't like that sensation
one bit and headed way up north to get caustic and strange, stripping those
natural pop songs down to raw component pieces and rebuilding them in brutal,
dysfunctional style. Once they
had them on tape they came back down with F**K THE GOLDEN YOUTH – certainly
their most wild album. It's a portrait of this band at their most vicious and
inscrutable, resisting every force acting on them at once.
