Crooked Earth is a 2001 New Zealand film starring Temuera Morrison.
Will Bastion (Temuera Morrison), returns from 20 years service in the New
Zealand Army to Raukura, his hometown, to face the biggest challenge of his
life. His father has died, leaving a sacred greenstone patu, the symbol of
leadership, to him. He doesnt want it, believing it represents the violence he
has turned his back on. His uncertainty is seized upon by the charismatic
firebrand, Kahu, Will's younger brother and rebel leader of the tribe.
Matters are further complicated by the arrival of Will's 17-year-old
daughter, Ripeka, who is brimming with her own brand of rebellion. Openly
flouting the government through their radical separatist views and dope-growing
empire, Kahu and his cult have either seduced or intimidated everyone in the
village. Will having seen real war cannot tolerate Kahus violence. The stage is
set for a showdown, pitting brother against brother as the forces of tradition,
government authority and tribe pride, all collides in an action-packed saga of
loyalty, betrayal and love.
