This movie was entertaining and a bit of a psychological drama. A good take on how 1 person can manipulate another, how man can dominate to the harm of his wife. Set in times of ignorance with regard to women's rights and freedom. Also how the ‘truth does set you free’ spiritually, physically and emotionally. It was a good portrayal of Margaret and her character and finally her courage. An entertaining movie and only available on DVD as New Zealand withdrew this from the cinemas for viewing.
I remember these pictures and had no idea of the drama behind them. Tim Burton is respectful of the artists beliefs and, having read her story online, is accurate in dramatizing her eventful life.
Directed and produced by Tim Burton, Big Eyes is based on the true story of Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), who was one of the most successful painters 1950s and early 1960s. The artist earned staggering notoriety by revolutionizing the commercialization and accessibility of popular art with his enigmatic paintings of waifs with big eyes. The truth would eventually be discovered though: Keane's were actually not created by him at all, but by his wife, Margaret (Amy Adams). The Keanes, it seemed, had been living a lie that had grown to gigantic proportions. Big Eyes centres on Margaret's awakening as an artist, the phenomenal success of her paintings, and her tumultuous relationship with her husband, who was catapulted to international fame while taking credit for her work
