While deciding on a second display for my gaming rig, I agonised over whether to get another 24" 60hz or take the plunge to 144hz.
Surely it couldn't make that much of a difference- Would it be worth the extra cost-
Well… In this case, it makes a huge difference and it's worth every cent.
My older LG 60hz 2ms TN display, now my secondary monitor, did its job but this Asus just completely obliterates it in clarity, colour depth, vibrancy (all pretty good as far as TN displays go), raw response and performance.
Games I've been playing for years take on a whole new persona with details emerging through the Asus display that make it feel like I'm playing the game for the first time. It's more than enough to drive a sense of immersion lost on my older display.
I've also noticed my favourite games run at much better ultra-quality frame rates at 144hz without the occasional stuttering or frame rate drop I'd experienced at 60hz, possibly because of the Asus' lower input lag rather than a lack of system processing power (i7–6700, 16Gb RAM, GTX970).
This monitor has made me realise a power gaming rig is wasted without the visual translation a quality gaming monitor adds to the mix. I don't see myself ever going back to sub-144hz again.
Other pros include ease of ergonomics with an easily adjustable height and tilt mechanism built in to this Asus display and the screen itself is a sexy addition to my desk.
Highly recommended if you're looking to take the next step into the world of gaming monitors but don't have the cash to throw at a 27"+ QHD/UHD, Free/G-Sync-enabled panel (one day, one day).
