Description

Excerpt from 1976 Sub Turri The Assistants are trained by professionals and paraprofessionals from the Counseling Services staff in workshops conducted in the spring and fall of each year. The training program is designed to provide the volunteers with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as facilitators of orientation. Individual Freshman, Transfer and Registered Nurse Assistants personally contact each incoming student prior to the opening of classes in September or January and then meet with these same new undergraduates in small groups during the official University Orientation Programs conducted at the beginning of each semester. Informal interaction continues between Assistants and new students throughout the year, especially at critical times such as registration and change-of-course periods.
