Motorstorm Pacific Rift could quite possibly be the best Motorstorm to date, with its slick graphics and styli presentation – it has improved a lot since its predecessor.

The presentation for Pacific Rift is very cool with better load times and now Evolution Studios have incorporated spit-screen in the game (two thumbs up) along with a whole bunch of new additions as well but I won't go in to detail about that (can't spoil all the fun can I?)

Now to the graphics and sound – awesome and more awesome! The lighting is fantastic and the courses are very dense, but some off the textures could have been a little sharper. The crashes are, of course, awesome. The soundtrack for Pacific Rift is very good, though just your general licensed mix of appropriate racing tunes. And the vehicle and crashing effects are well done.

Gameplay is also very good along with the controls, but not as tight as they could be. The chaos and destruction is still there in full force, and the track design is very impressive.

So final verdict? There are plenty of events to conquer, and the online will last you a good while making this off-road racing game a high-octane, fast paced action racer with very impressive visuals and a great soundtrack from pumping drum ‘n’ bass to the cars exploding in front of you. Definitely worth a look if you are in to your arcade race games.

I enjoyed the original Motorstorm on release, it was a nice tech demo to sgow of what the PS3 could do, but it notably lacked some of the bare essentials that all racing games require, diverse career, time trials, variety of cars and split screen. Whilst Pacific Rift certainly delivers on these, the addition of the 4 elements for track type just take it to a different level. Right from the get go the entertainment value is incredibly high, it is engaging and satisfying by maintaing a tight difficulty curve.

One of the very best PS3 games, highly recommended.

So i've had this game for over a year now and after getting sick of it, I decided to give it another go, and see if the developers had made a patch for it yet. unfortunately they have not, since the other two reviews are so one sided, I guess I will give you the honest review. first of all since it is easier to list the good points, so I will list them first: 4 – player splitscreen – not many next gen games have this, especially racers. also the graphics engine is very nice (when it works).

which brings me to the bad points. for starters the physics engine needs a few major tweaks, you will find yourself highly frustrated when your vehicle constantly rolls over for no reason at all. also hitting non-existant objects is a major problem (whether it's a graphics engine glitch and the image of the object doesnt appear, or it's just a physics engine glitch, it will still annoy you the same). unresponsive controls will also add to the ruining of your fun. And for some annoying reason even though there are 12 drivers on the track it is ALWAYS all vs you. after being rammed from all angles, and vehicles will even take themselves out just to stop you from coming first, you have very little chance of winning a game. also the game difficulty changes by position, if you're in first the game gets much more difficult, than if you're last place. So all up if you get this game, don't expect it to be easy, expect alot of frustration, and hours and hours of redoing a race due to a glitch that made you come last, no matter how good you get, it is always luck that determines your final position. expect frustration. that's the best way I can sum it up.

Description

The second instalment of the best-selling PLAYSTATION 3 brutal off road racer leaves Monument Valley for a Pacific island of dense jungle, thick swamps, towering peaks and steaming volcanoes. But don't let the tranquil scenery fool you; this new setting is as violent and unpredictable as the drivers that flock to it. It will smash, scorch and drown you at every turn.

Like the environment, opponents are smarter and more aggressive this time around, with improved Artificial Intelligence. There are 16 multi-route tracks to tear up with all the vehicle classes from the first MotorStorm: ATVs, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs, as well as the newly arrived monster trucks that climb, sprint and roll over any vehicle in their way.

Multiplayer is even more intense; 16 racers can duke it out online or up to four people can get together and race in split-screen. Comprehensive PLAYSTATION Network support provides sophisticated ranking and leaderboards.

It's brutal, dangerous, relentless, and unpredictable and more than a game - MotorStorm is way of life. The festival is back this autumn and promises to be larger than ever before.

Features:
  • The island - a brand new, beautifully realised racing location
  • Dynamic events, unpredictable and brutal off road racing conditions make every lap unique
  • Competitive online racing for up to 16 players and up to 4-player split screen mode
