In the first installment of our new weekly Thursday Throwback
blog, we're going to be taking a stroll down memory
lane and looking at some of the best songs and music videos of
yester-year!
There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when listening to an old song
you love, the way you somehow remember all the words, despite not having heard
the song for quite some time. The way the melody takes that oh so familiar path
yet still excites you after your hundredth listen.
The term “Musical Frisson” describes the chills and
goosebumps you get when you hear a track that speaks to your heart and soul. The
tracks below are some of my favourites that still give me the shivers to
this day!
Let's get started!

Whether you love or hate her, there's no denying the staying power of Madonna. She's been making music
for as long as I can remember and has somehow managed to evolve and stay
relevant with the times like so few artists from her generation have.
Through an almost uncountable amount of image changes and experimentation
with new sounds, Madonna has stayed at the very forefront of Pop Music and has
continued to gain new fans both old and young.
It hasn't been easy being a Madonna fan in New Zealand as the prolific Queen
of Pop has never made the journey across to our shores.

Kimbras' highly anticipated sophomore album, The Golden Echo
is set to release on the 15th of August!
The album is a vivid, vivacious, and ambitious arc of pop and funk that
conveys an array of questions and insights. It’s an album both of youthful
exuberance and mature introspection. It’s at once a dancing record and
thinking record, inspired by such diverse musical touchstones as
Prince, ’70s R&B, ’90s pop, and The Mars Volta, but
heralding the full arrival of a distinctive artist. It's what Kimbra Lee
Johnson has been aspiring to and working toward since her teen years in her
hometown of Hamilton.
Check out the making of The Golden Echo
below for an awesome insight into the creative process behind the album!

What if you could take all the best things out of your vinyl recordings and
make them as portable as the rest of your collection? Seems like the people over
at mbeat were thinking the same thing, because they came up with an answer with
the Turntable
and Cassette Digital Recorder.
There's always been something special about analogue audio. The crackle and
pop of a vinyl record to the warmth and personality in a cassette tape always
brings a recording to life in a way that digital never has. Unfortunately, vinyl
isn't the most portable of platforms, and finding a Walkman anywhere other than
an opshop these days is near impossible.
Now all that warmth and personality can be taken with you in MP3 format,
simply hook the mbeat Digital Recorder up to your PC, record your vinyl and
cassettes, and upload them to your device. Certainly a lot easier than carrying
a turntable with you.
Sick of borrowing PA
from friends, or paying for pricey rentals every time a gig comes up?
Well fret no more! Whether you're the wedding singer, doing pub
gigs, or just hosting the family Xmas party, Wharfedale
have got all you'll need to be heard!
With great packs like the PMX700
you could hold a small concert in your backyard. The two 12''
speakers, run through the 150 watt amp, are enough to get complaints from your
neighbours for sure, but compact enough to chuck in the boot of your car to take
away for the weekend – it even includes a mic!
If you're a DJ, or looking for some serious extra low end, why not check out
the Wharfedale
TITAN A12 Active Sub? It's active, which means
it's self-powered, it's relatively light weight and most importantly is
Loud! Boasting 250W of grunt, this is one way to get a party bouncing
and is a perfect compliment to the PMX700.

Many of us grew up with the name Shure —and
its ubiquitous ball-end SM58 mic.
Although over the decades, the company has stuck to guns with all the golden
oldies, it's rolled with the times too and continued to develop wireless
and wired tech for a variety of applications.
They've got it down with the latest wireless gear, offering features and
prices to suit—including the PGX
Digital wireless system.
The receiver is compact and utilitarian.
Antennas and controls are on the front, with connectors on the rear. According
to the specifications, line-of-sight working range is 200 feet
(60 metres).

Zoom’s Q3HD
brings HD video and audio together for great looking movies that sound better
than ever.
Sound makes the movie.
Q3HD records at several resolutions and speeds, including 1080p at 30 frames
per second and 720p at 30 or 60 frames per second. It has three lighting
settings – Auto, Concert Lighting, and Night – to help optimize the
quality of your video recordings… but listening to the Q3HD reveals
its true hook. The built-in mics capture a great range of stereo sound, from the
resonance of an acoustic guitar to rich-sounding dialogue. Selectable bit- and
sample-rate settings tune audio performance all the way up to 24-bit PCM at
96kHz, or 48kHz AAC at 320kbps.
Whether you're trying to break into the YouTube circuit or improve your band
through careful analysis of recent rehearsals and performances, you
need quality recording that accurately represents your look
and sound.
