Description

"I wish this book had been available last year. A few months before I'd applied to do a Triathlon and was left wondering - what had I been thinking!" So said Andrew Pate, Meridian TV Sports Presenter.Taking up Triathlon is for many a daunting proposition. You know it is a tough sport - can you do it? Will you make a fool of yourself in your first race? Which distance should you do? How should you train? What about equipment? How much will you have to spend? (If you follow our advice - surprisingly, very little). Both the authors have had a lot of fun with the sport and want to encourage others to join them. Dave Savage is a former Commonwealth Games Triathlete and qualified British Triathlon Coach. David Willox is a former army officer, turned management consultant, and old enough to know better, brings a wealth of scientific understanding to the subject of training. Can you really do a Triathlon in ten weeks?Actually, when the authors started to write the book the working title included the words "Triathlon in eight weeks". So the answer is yes! But with a couple of caveats. If you've been a couch potato for the last 10 years the answer is still probably yes - you'll find the training tough - but not impossible. The other caveat is that you must actually do the training - and work hard at it.The book includes sections on training, assessing where you are now, equipment, avoiding injury, nutrition, and psychology as well as eight weeks of training sessions and a "taper week" to set you up for the first race. But that is only 9 weeks. Well, you get the extra week to get organised at the start.Ricky Burrell BSc, Olympic Silver Medalist said of the book;"Training is hard work. A good coach will keep training sessions varied and enjoyable but will also help you understand why you are training in a particular way. This book does all of that - and more.HAPPY TRAINING!"
