New Zealand-born, Australia-raised, and London-based artist Jordan Rakei is back with a new album, What We Call Life.
His previous albums on Ninja Tune, Origin and Wallflower, cemented his worldwide reputation as a modern soul icon in the making.
As well as being a lyrical step forward, What We Call Life also expands his sonic vocabulary. While it will sound familiar to fans of his hip hop and neo soul-infused work, on What We Call Life Rakei dives deeper into his sound world – merging acoustic with electronic, and ambient atmospheres with rugged groove – to create something more detailed, richer, and more textural than before.
The artwork was created to resonate with the themes on What We Call Life. The melancholic images reflect the title of the record.
What We Call Life is Jordan Rakei’s most intimate and vulnerable album to date.
