Description

A popular collection of ancient Celtic myths from Wales, with Arthurian tales, and part of a grand tradition that links Irish, Scottish and European culture. A celtic-origin masterpiece of myth and legend the Mabinogion is a translation from Medieval Welsh of four cycles of tales, based on literature of the 12th and 13th centrury, although that is thought to be based on centuries of oral storytelling. Stories of the underworld, a war with Ireland, enchantment and magical creatures are accompanied by tales of King Arthur and his court. 10 b/w illustrations

Author Biography:

Jackson is General Editor of The World's Greatest Myths and Legends series, with titles including 'Myths of Babylon', 'Indian Myth', 'Egyptian Myth', 'Norse Myth' and 'Polynesian Island Myth'. He is editor of 'Myths and Legends' and foreword writer for 'Celtic Myths and Tales'. Other related work includes articles on the Philosophy of Time, 'Macbeth, A Gothic Chaos' and William Blake's use of mythology in his visionary literature. Shân Morgain is an international Mabinogi expert. Her 35 years of love and research opens up the tales’ secrets to a new generation, revealing new insights previously unknown. Like Charlotte Guest, she ‘married in’ to Wales, becoming a proudly honorary Welshwoman. She writes from two perspectives: academic scholar (Swansea University), and priestess (House of the Goddess, London). Her ‘Mabinogi Study’ website with its acclaimed ‘Mabinogi Bibliography’ has been nominated to the UK Web Archive as 'an important part of Wales’ documentary heritage'.
