Description

A concise research on the wartime development and operations of the Bulgarian Air Force. This book covers the entire spectrum of air–to-air, air-to-ground and reconnaissance operations undertaken by the Bulgarian air arm between 1941 and 1945 as well as the naval operations in the Black Sea. Having been a strong Germany ally during World War I, Bulgaria was a natural candidate to join the Axis. As the Second World War reached the Balkans, Bulgaria's small air force fought first for and then against the Axis. In 1943–1944 the air arm defended the Bulgarian territory against the Allied bomber raids and supported the Bulgarian land forces deployed in Greece and Yugoslavia. However, after 9 September 1944 the Bulgarian air arm was involved in the support of its former enemies, the Allies.
