Description

Coach Renner learned through Coach Bill Walsh's teaching that if you coordinate the quarterback's footwork with the receiver's footwork you can complete passes and have a consistent and dynamic passing attack. Coach Walsh's philosophy influenced the creation of his West Coast Offense and produced arguably two of the best passing and receiving combinations in NFL history, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice and Steve Young and Jerry Rice. Using Coach Walsh's footwork timing concept, Coach Renner has developed a specific system of matching and teaching quarterback footwork and receiver route footwork that can produce consistent and reliable results at all football levels. Coach Renner has taught this system to his own high school teams, other high school teams, youth league teams, 7 on 7 teams, and in camp settings for over 20 years. In each instance, quarterbacks and receivers learn to consistently throw and catch on time and in rhythm the first-time footwork coordination is installed. Whether from the gun or under center, the quarterback has specific footwork for each receiver route. Receivers run their routes with a specific number of stem steps before they make a cut. Running route stems on steps instead of by yards, makes it easy for any receiver to grasp immediately and to be consistent in execution. Quarterbacks learn which drop back or play action footwork to use to match the receiver stem steps. Their drop back steps include 1-step no hitch, 3-step no hitch, 3-step hitch, 3-step M drill, 5-step no hitch, and play action depth and width. Coach Renner's footwork principles can be applied to any passing offense within any offensive system. Coach Renner has used this footwork system during his 30-year coaching career in the I, wing-t, power I, and spread offenses he has coached. An average passing year for Coach Renner's offense over a 10-year period has been 3,000 passing yards, 28 passing touchdown, 68% completions and 9 interceptions. Your players can achieve the same high level of passing competence that Coach Renner's players have achieved executing this coordinated footwork system. With over 70 diagrams and pictures, specific coaching and practice plans, and a concise footwork and ball location summary chart, Coach Renner gives you precise details of how to teach, coach and practice the quarterback and receiver timing and rhythm footwork system. As an example, with just 5 practices, Coach Renner taught a team of 8th graders the coordinated footwork system detailed in this book. They executed it in their game, and between two different quarterbacks and eight different receivers, they completed 25 of 36 passes for 308 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Precision of execution and not ability level is the determiner of success for this quarterback and receiver passing footwork system.
