Description

It is bedtime and Blake is safe in his room but something just doesn't feel right. He clutches his stuffed monkey wondering why he is so anxious. Just then, Santosha appears, telling him "I am here to teach you how to find a special way to open your heart and calm your busy mind." As Santosha speaks of soothing images of the beach, ice cream, and a loving mother's hug, beautiful watercolor illustrations invite young readers and adults to connect to their breath and find contentment in the moment along with him. This engaging, mindful picture book offers easy, kid-friendly methods to calm anxiety and helpful tools to manage feelings, while teaching readers young and old how to access these tools with self-sufficiency anywhere, anytime. A soothing bedtime story and encouraging book for during stressful moments, the story draws upon eastern philosophies that empower children to build universal skills in their emotional development. The intention of Santosha is to personify the feeling of contentment and help children connect inward to access a relatable remedy for life's stressors. The story frames anxiety as a normal part of everyday life and something that children have the power to solve for themselves while capturing their imagination.

Author Biography:

Lauren Eastman is a boy mom who chases waves, practices yoga and writes every chance she gets. For the past 20 years she has told stories for a living for entrepreneurs, chefs, yoga instructors, and Fortune 500 companies through her company, Issima Communications. She launched Issima Publications in 2020 to begin telling her own stories, co-written with her son. A student of Eastern Philosophy, Lauren Eastman was inspired to create the Sound of Sharing Series after learning from young students of Sahasra Deepika Foundation for Education in India, whose ability to connect with themselves for the answers of life's dilemmas were well beyond their years. The concept for the series is informed by her Yoga practice that began during International Studies at American University, then onto the mat from San Francisco to the jungles of Ubud, through the ancient temples of Trithalamalu and beyond. Shruti Prabhu is a graphic designer turned children's book illustrator based in Mumbai, India. She loves to bring her colorful characters to life with watercolor, gouache and pencils. Her visual style involves both traditional and digital mediums. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in Typography from Sir JJ Institute (2009) and a Master's Degree in Design and Branding from University of Arts, London (2011). Shruti has collaborated with multiple international authors including Beyond Words, Like a Girl, They Draw and Travel, and most recently Santosha Saves Bedtime. When she is not drawing, she is busy obsessing over plants and retro video games.
