As with the first game, Kane & Lynch comes back with two of the most interesting, unique and badass characters in video games. These are not nice men. These guys are vicious killers who won't hesitate to shoot someone just because they got in the way. Or that was me while playing the game.
The game differs from the first in many ways. 1: The camera is replaced from standard third person from the first, with a form of documentary-like feel. While sprinting, the camera will wobble like a tightrope walker on crack. The camera will be placed on the seat of a car while the guys drive around, and the camera will pixalate during certain (And rather disturbing) scenes.
2: The cover system is now a single button press, similar to that of Gears Of War…and every other game since then.
3: You spend the entire game in a single city instead of a vast many locations.
While the latter does make you feel slightly less in advantage as certain levels from the first game did, you will get tired of the Chinese backdrop, and the constant running through alleys with neo signs in a foreign language.
As with the first, the language is atrocious, as it should be for two men who were in jail for very good reasons. The voice acting however, is fantastic…even if the story seems to falter at points, and doesn't seem to end. More like the writers lost the last couple of pages of cutscenes.
But the biggest thing about this game is that you only play as Lynch. While that was fun in the first game on co-op (I.E. When Lynch goes berserk during a bank robbery and shoots civilians, but the players camera shows armed gunmen aiming at you). However, while this does sound fun, it does lose it's ‘coolness’ after the first couple of levels.
All in all, this game is fun, if a little short, made up by some somewhat worthy multiplayer. In the end, like the first, this is a very niche game. Out of the massive gaming population, very few will thoroughly enjoy this.
