IÂ have just bought a very young thoroughbred, and am out of practice myself.
IÂ needed a book to remind me of basics and show me how to deal with her baby
ways :)
The horses used here not young, they are 12Â and 13..but the tips and
handling skills are fab..
IÂ flicked though as soon as IÂ opened the parcel and discovered how to get a
horse to stand next to the mounting block.. YAH! No more hopping like
a loon..
How to use body language with a nervy horse on a lead rope..and what they
look like when they're asking you for reassurance (they aren't really trying to
eat you).
After intially thinking this book wouldn't do – because his subjects
weren't four year old mares fresh off the track – I can see I will be
referrring to this heaps.
It has great photos, and the writing is easy to absorb. Many pages have a box
with tips, or checklists to give you a boost.
For me returning to riding, its a guide and very reassuring. Lots here for
more experienced riders too. Can't wait to get out to the paddock and try some
of this!
