Author Biography:

Shawnie Grant started her professional career within the fashion industryin 2009 when she founded a charity organization Tailored Hearts, whichreconstructs gently worn garments, and donates them to teenage girls inneed living in Houston, Texas. She has years of experience in fashion design, global fabric sourcing, import/export, as well as research and developmentthrough her business Tailored Boutique, which was started in 2013. Herexperience extends to the media world, where she co-hosted fashion segmentsto promote her clothing brand Tailored on a local new channel inHouston, KHOU 11, which is a CBS-affiliated television station. She beganher personal journey with Fashion Beyond Borders: Exploring the GlobalFashion Industry in 2015 when she made the decision to move to Shenzhen, China to work side-by-side with local clothing manufacturers to produceher clothing brand Tailored. During that time, she started writing fashioncurriculums and taught them in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Morocco.In 2017, she taught Fashion Beyond Borders: Exploring The Global FashionIndustry curriculum at New York University Shanghai in Shanghai, Chinato high school students desiring to start careers within the fashion industry.She followed with Fashion Beyond Borders: Exploring the Global FashionIndustry course book, which is now sold globally, offering countless othersthe opportunity to learn the necessary steps to start and manufacture a fashionbrand. Shawnie was the first fashion consultant to teach a fashion course at New York University Shanghai NYUSPS and is the first to teach garmentmanufacturing workshops Texas Southern University located in Houston, Texas. Fashion Beyond Borders: Exploring the Global Fashion Industrywill be taught at TSU during the Fall 2018-2019 academic year. Shawnieis currently a graduate student in University of Houston MBA programconcentrating in international business.
