Description

Curious Tales from the Rag Bag is a collection of surreal illustrations and observational wry or whimsical short stories, poems and ponderings on and around the surprising nature of life, to which we can all relate. Life, with its ups and downs and joys and sorrows; its complications and its simplicities; its weirdness and (in may cases) its very ordinariness. The stories are sometimes joyous, sometimes painful, sometimes inspirational, often heart-warming, at times heart-wrenching. The characters we meet, we have all met - maybe we are them? We understand their tales, often only too well, and laugh and cry with them. Each story is accompanied and inspired by its own fantastically surreal and surprising image, and each image enables a deeper understanding and appreciation of the tale within.

Author Biography:

I have had a varied and colourful career, from antique dealing in France in the '80's, to representing and exhibiting the work of artists, famous and not so, to designing and presenting an eight part gardening television series for BBC2 (Digging Deep). I have more recently created and opened various vintage shops in London. As well as working on 'Curious Tales from the Rag Bag' I am also completing my second book (in the trilogy) 'Of Humans and Other Creatures. Book Two. Every Picture tells a Story.' I find it impossible to stop writing and take pleasure in posting a variety of work, often funny and irreverent, on my Instagram page @quirkandthecuckoos. I have worked for many years as a counsellor in the social sector but have always been captivated by creativity - from restoring antique furniture to designing and making dolls and lamps. My passion over the last six years has been my artwork, making paper and digital collages and I have currently embarked on creating a number of paper sculptures, often embellished, all of which I display on my Instagram page @zonnewende. I have attracted a substantial following and am currently exhibiting to the wider public through exhibitions.
