Description

Have you ever wondered how a triathlete can survive for 140.6 miles racing the Ford Ironman World Championship race in Hawaii? How about an ordinary person who has the luck of winning a lottery slot to race with the best athletes in the world in this race. Dale Tweedy did just that. His book gives an up close and personal account of what the race looks like and feels like from the athlete's perspective as he battles the harsh winds and heat of the big Island. Part II of the book is a copy of his blog he kept in the months preceding the race in Hawaii. This part of the book gives a detailed overview of the grueling training and preparation he goes through, and the challenges he faces, as he prepares to race in the 2008 Ford Ironman World Championship.

Author Biography:

Dale Tweedy has spent most of his adult life as an entrepreneur in business where he founded companies in technology, consulting and real-estate investments. In his off time, he has focused on pursuing the adventurous side of life. Since early adulthood as an Army Paratrooper, Dale has pursued and mastered other adventure sports and hobbies such as adventure racing, rock climbing, scuba diving, kayaking and the sport of triathlon just to name a few. It was reaching the pinnacle in the sport of triathlon, and Dale's passion for this sport, that motivated him to write this book. The Ford Ironman World Championship is held once a year in Kona, Hawaii where the best 1600 triathletes in the world earn the right to race it. An additional two hundred people are selected from around the world from a lottery pick to race as novice racers, of which, Dale was one of.
