In her new comedy, Connie and Carla, Nia Vardalos, the writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, mixes in a dash of two classic film comedies – Some Like it Hot and Victor/Victoria.
Connie (Vardalos) and Carla (Toni Collette) are two struggling, working class dinner theatre performers whose lives are turned topsy-turvy when they accidentally witness a mafia hit. Fearing for their lives, they go on the run and head to Los Angeles where they go undercover as drag queens. To pluralise a line from Victor/Victoria it’s all about “girls pretending to be men pretending to be girlsâ€
