London born, New Zealand raised and of Ghanian heritage Leila Adu is an edgy soul singer with a nu-jazz style and a flair for the dramatic. With Cherry Pie her second album Leila presents us with a record full of beautifully realised love songs, life songs and done me wrong songs. Moving from a sweet and tender downbeat to a spine shivering bossa nova Leila lays down her impressive vocal range like the finest of sultry soul divas. A collaborative work with some of Wellington's finest musicians Leila is joined on this album by drummer Ricky Gooch (TrinityRoots), saxophonist Jeffrey Henderson, and bassist Tom Callwod (Syzygy, Urban Taniwha) while David Long adds his deft touch as both guitarist (The Muttonbirds) and producer (Dave Dobbyn's Available Light).
