"This is not the AoT you know and love; it's a much more lighthearted spin-off that got more than a few laughs out of me. In a nutshell, the protagonist Eren enters Junior High but has difficulty when he encounters the Titans, who also go to their own school. Although it is at first bizarre to see the Titans (especially the infamous one that we see in the first episode of the original series) rocking out on stage or sitting in desks, the light-natured atmosphere ultimately puts them in a different (and hilarious light).
There are also many parallels to events from the original series, like Eren's disdain for Titans from an event five years ago and the formation of a school “Survey Club” to push out the Titans, among others that will be apparent to the diehard AoT fan. I have to commend the English language team behind this spinoff as there are many Western cultural influences (Watch out for a Tobey Maguire and Fox News reference, both of which I never thought I'd see in an AoT manga). And look out for when Hanji comes into the story and how they deal with the whole gender controversy. Not to mention a slightly scathing critique on the school system that is actually fairly relevant. Much kudos to Kodansha USA.
Junior High contains two volumes' worth of the original Japanese manga, so it comes at a staggering 300+ pages of levity that is sure to be a delight to fans of the heavy Aot anime/manga. This is quite the deal money-wise and it is just pure fun, so I'd definitely recommend it." gordo
