5 stars "Love it"

Initially I was put off by the ‘new’ Dante, as I played through the first 3 on PS2 some years ago and the whole ‘angst ridden emo kid and dubstep bandwagon soundtrack’ was a step in the wrong direction.

However, not only do I prefer the new Dante, but the soundtrack kicks serious demon butt. Hell, I actually bought the soundtrack, which is produced by Noisia.

The gameplay is amazing, fast, frantic, quick swapping through weapons is simple, you can use every weapon in your arsenal against a single enemy without ever pausing or menu hopping.

Admittedly I did lose interest in some of the later levels as they got a bit abstract (the night club was fairly awful) but as a whole the representation of Limbo is amazing and beautifully integrated into real world type environments.

Tonnes of replay value, secret missions, and downloadable (some free, and 1 pack cost me just $3.50 for a new infinite type combat mode – there is another story mode available too for around $15nzd but heard it's short and rated poorly)

Anyways, love it. 5/5

5 stars "SSSensational"

Played the demo six thousand times already. Just treat this Dante as someone else (not the lovable silver-haired demon hunter we grew up with) and enjoy the blast!

5 stars "Just look past the new Dante"

After playing through the demo five times I'm pretty much sold. The gameplay is fantastic and if you can look past the godawful new Dante you should enjoy it.

4 stars "Looks better than most people expect"

As the name suggests this is a reboot of the devil may cry series, centered around a now demon-angel hybrid Dante, who will fight along side his brother Vergil (who is the leader of a rebellion against the demons). The gameplay seems to be focused on intense aerial combat, where his demon sword Rebellion now transforms on the fly for both combat and movement. You also get a speed boost when you reach an S-rank, as well as having to combat a sentient environment. I find this reboot refreshing to the series, and personally can not wait for it to be released (especially on PC).

4 stars "Solid"

DmC's gameplay stays true to the original titles, while bringing a cinematic story on the level to be expected by Ninja Theory. Previous Ninja Theory games seem to have made an impact on Capcom's decisions with the combat system.

DmC plays like just about any Devil May Cry game, with about as many different weapons and combos with familiar weapons and a couple of new ones.

DmC's story sometimes leaves a little to be desired, but the overall cinematic quality makes the cutscenes enjoyable, and thankfully most of them are quite short so as not to interrupt gameplay too much.

While Dante's new design and personality has been debated, he still keeps a good amount of classic Dante's attitude and you can see that this Dante is well on the road to becoming the Dante everybody knows and loves.

DmC plays quite nicely and the combat system is intuitive for the most part, I've had times where I've tried to double-jump while using an angel weapon and ended up gliding around instead and I've often mixed up the two grapple-hooks, but these are minor issues for an overall decent combat system. It's easy to pull off more complicated combos thanks to cues placed in mid-combo. This helps you pull off the right combo at the right time and helps avoid a messy mistake or two.

Overall, DmC is a pretty decent game and well worth playing. With the new cinematic quality and enough collectibles to make a hoarder look normal, you'll be playing this one for a while.

Description

Detailing Dante's early years and set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry will retain the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge

The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast.

He is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.

For DmC Capcom has teamed up with UK development studio, Ninja Theory, renown for delivering action titles with compelling characters and narrative coupled with high production values. The combination of Ninja Theory's expertise and Capcom's unrivalled heritage in producing combat focused action titles will ensure that this latest addition to the multi-million selling series will remain true to the Devil May Cry DNA so cherished by the fans, while bringing a new level of cinematic quality to the title.

Features:

  • Do it with style – Utilize Dante's Angel and Demon powers to chain together ground-based and aerial combos to achieve the best style ranking.
  • Who is Dante? – Explore Dante's early years in a gripping narrative featuring familiar faces from the series alongside all new characters.
  • Unbridled action – The intense and iconic sword and gun based combat returns with the addition of new weapons all designed to dispatch the demonic spawn back to hell with style and panache.
  • Retaining the Devil May Cry DNA – Capcom staff, including team members from previous Devil May Cry titles, have been assigned to the project from the outset to ensure DmC is a true addition to the Devil May Cry franchise.
  • Unrivalled production values – Ninja Theory will take advantage of the latest performance capture technology to deliver a level of character design, story-telling and cinematics that perfectly complements DmC's high-octane combat.
