Flames of War Fridays: And the winner is...

By David

Since I've been running around in China for the past few weeks its been a while since our last Flames of War Friday but now we're back and rearing to go!

First up this week is the all important draw for the winner of our As Seen on FOW Friday Prize Pack:

Congratulations… Andrew from Wellington, who gets this new Soviet force to go alongside the Japanese infantry he purchased!

A big thanks to all those who entered, and if you have any ideas on what our next FOW Friday competition should be, let us know in the comments below.

Operation Market Garden

It's high time I started playing more FOW games and learn the rules, so I'm taking part in a Firestorm: Market Garden campaign with the boys from T.C.O.W over the next few months. With Battlefront's own rules designer Mike Haught at the helm this looking like it's going to be awesome already.

Last weekend we kicked things of with a custom designed intro mission, Mad Tuesday, which taught us the basics of the strategic movement and reinforcements which add extra dimensions to the campaign. Once those were complete it was time to get cracking and play FOW in the normal fashion.

We have to use forces chosen from the Market Garden books, so I'm using a British 11th Guards Armoured force, made up of the models from the Open Fire starter set.

My opening game was against a Kampfgruppe von Swoboda, and an instant feeling of dread set in when I saw that my Shermans were going to be going head to head with 12 8.8cm anti-aircraft/anti-tank guns with nowhere to hide!

Suffix to say my tanks were destroyed in 2 short turns but the other valiant Allied generals managed to score enough victories to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat.

The campaign proper will begin next weekend and promises to be highly entertaining. Almost as entertaining as my visit to the Beijing Tank Mueseum…
