The value of this boom arm comes down to what you need it to do.

As a fixed position stand it's cheap, it’s solid, it has good height/reach and a decent mount. If you like the aesthetic of a scissor arm and you don't plan on changing the position of your mic then this would probably be great.

But if you want to move your mic around often, folding it out of the way when you’re not using it, moving it with you as you change your position in your chair, etc. Then it’s just not fit for purpose and you’re going to have to find something else.

The trouble is that for this particular arm they skipped the spring on the lower arm section so the only thing keeping it in position is friction from very tight bolts at the hinge points. The extreme tightness of those bolts makes moving the mic position a pain since you really have to grip the thing and force it.

You can't loosen those bolts either because then it'll just flop down.

It’s kind of stunning to me that they would make a scissor arm that you can’t move around properly. The entire point of the scissor design is so you can move it around and the mic will stay at the same angle regardless of position. It’s made to be moved! Easily and often!

I really wonder how much money was saved by skipping the second spring. And if it was a lot then why not skip all the springs? It’s not going to be any less functional with no springs than it is with only one.

If you need to move your mic around then unfortunately you're going to have to spend around $200+ on a proper arm. Or if you are ok with a smaller reach then the smaller (~$30) arms with external springs you’ll find are also acceptable.

Great product, holds a heavy XLR mic at full extension for me with no problem at all and looks smart too!
