This will have you drooling over each wonderful page of Ladies, a plate as It oozes with warm homebaked goodness with recipes from our mothers and our mothers mothers treasured community cookbooks from Invercargill to Auckland. From Afgans to Trifle, This is a must have book for any daughter, wife, mother, lover who has a remote interest in baking scrummy, yummies like custard squares. Especially wonderful in this time of economic hardship…it shows the economising thrift of those who have come before us. The recipes that were linked to the Great Depression like the friendly road buns, is a testimony for what great things can be done with flour, milk, eggs and butter! A true culinary time machine! Yummy.

"Delicious"

The recipes in this book are delicious! Remind me of the baking my Grandmother did.

I just found Alexa's website and it is jammed with more delicious recipes, and it's updated every month http://www.ladiesaplate.co.nz.

This is another great edition to your recipe collection, with lots of old goodies, and some fun stuff to make with the kids........ if they don't eat all the mix before it makes it to the oven!

It has everything! … Even all the old Kiwi baking favorites, that have started to coming back in vogue. It has lots of special homemade treats for the kids and all there friends, (that you know don't have all those bad additives) And you'll be the envy of all your friends at the next coffee group when you pull these goodies out!

Can't wait till my ‘second edition’ of ‘ladies, a plate’ gets delivered.

“Thanks for the great price too, guys”.

I love this book 7 so purchased another one for a friend new to NZ. The recipes are traditional, just the way my mother used to bake. The real way! No additives, emulsifiers or any other numbered stuff that leaves us scratching our heads. I thoroughly recommend this book & with Xmas coming up, a great gift to pass on.

I love this book, have made lots of the recipes already. The spicy biscuits are a must!! I love that there are lots of the basics – stuff my Grandmother used to make etc… Plus there are often two versions so you can choose what you like the sound of or have the ingredients for.
