"Extremely Awesome!!!"
5 stars"

Got the collectors edition off mighty ape the day of release. Proud to say I have barely stopped playing it so far. This is by far the best “driving sim” ever… The level of realism is intense. I am finding it very difficult to stop playing. Extremely recommend this to every PS3 owner and those without a PS3 should get one to play this game!!!

"Well worth the wait"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have been waiting a long time for this game to actually make it to the shelves and first impressions for me have been that is was a worthwhile wait. I have been a strong follower of the Gran Turismo brand having bought all previous games before. When I first put the game in and loaded it up I was however disappointed with a few things. The default control settings were a bit poor, I think we are all very much past the whole X and square being accelerate and brake respectively especially when the variable acceleration is needed to hone in your cornering skills. This was however quickly fixed. I found the initial loading speeds for the game to be a joke, so slow, but they seemed to have quickened up now. But once you get past these little “housekeeping” things the game is excellent with it's superb graphics and its classical GT feel.

After that many years it's good to know polyphony digital at least made GT5 amazing and easily the best racing game to date.

"Its here, finally!"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

We,ve been waiting a long, long time. And after 2 days play I can tell you its definately been worth it. The strength of the GT5 has always been its depth, and GT5 is no exception. Thousands of cars, a good selection of beautiful looking tracks and all kinds of racing (track, rally, nascar and even go karting). Of course its the cars that are the stars of the show. Many just look superb, beautifully modelled and awesome interiors. There a few minor negatives that stop it gaining that illusive final star. Of course there wasnt time to model every single car. But there are some cars that exactly like they did in GT2. Also the loading times are pretty annoying, going from race menu to car parts takes too long. I find the a spec races a little random and not as exciting as the special challenges. But overall best racing game on the PS3 (ive not played FORZA so wont compare). You should buy.

"Great game, but was it worth the wait??"

Great game, but was it worth the wait?? Beautiful looking game but I'm not convinced it's that much better than Forza Motorsport 3 on XBOX 360. For all the delays I think it lacks some polish. Still great though!!!

"Bad AI Drivers"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Poor Interface again – they still dont have it right. The AI cars defy physics and seem to be glued to the racing line, normal racing rules apply to you but do not apply to the AI cars – Definitely a big let down for the long wait for it to be released

"Would have been better without the hype"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Average graphics and a really bad menu system make this a real drudge to get through. Once you're finally in a race it's pretty good, the handling on the cars is outstanding but that's abotu the only good point. All in all I wish I hadn't bothered buying it.

"Racing simulator haha."
1 stars"

First things first I love racing simulators and I like the hard core realism that they portray and I have loved gran turismo since the first one. But to be honest this game is an epic fail, it is not a racing simulator. Yes there are apparently 1000 cars but only 200 of them are “premium” cars that have cockpit views and damage modeling (which isn't unlocked fully till level 40!!!) and also custom wheels. The racing is arcade style and the crashes sound unrealistic( I.e foot stomp or hand clap) The user interface is plucked straight from the 90's with a little year 2000 colour update. The a.i is straight stupid. There are no brake upgrades!!! ( in a racing simulation game this is crazy, what racing cars have standard factory brakes? )

If you only have a ps3 then I feel sorry you have to settle for this because everything this game attempts forza motor sport does so much better, there may only be 500 cars but at least you can customize them and they all have cockpit views and it is the most realistic driving I have played in a game, please do not fall for the hype I Did and am now very disappointed. Hire this game if you must but if your a racing simulation fan and like realism and upgradeable brakes then please consider forza motor sport.

"Solid Racer, but not as impressive as it should have been"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

After 5 years since GT4 blew us away on PS2, Gran Turismo 5 makes its grand return in Hi-Def and 3D. A decent racer in its own right, with a great sense of depth and plenty to do, however it does feel a little dumbed-down for general audiences. The fine tuning of cars is very simplified, taking away the whole purpose of making a car your own. The graphics are nowhere near as impressive as they should have been, having said that the reason behind this was to maintain a high frame rate and the 3D filtering. It leaves us to question exactly what they were doing in those 5 years to deliver something that fails to impress.

The single player experience is fun, with the two game modes in Career (A- and B- Spec), and the special events offer some interesting challenges. The Arcade mode is fun for local multiplayer.

If you are playing this game to get a Platinum Trophy, I wish you luck. It is most defiantly one of the hardest Platinums to get.

All in all a decent racer with plenty to keep the average gamer happy.

"Best PS3 Racing Simulator of this Generation"
4 stars"

The Gran Turismo series has always been known for a high level of quality and detail. Polyphony Digital, the makers of Gran Turismo, have a real passion for cars and motorsports and when you play a Gran Turismo game, this becomes very apparent and Gran Turismo 5 is no exception.

Long after the launch of the PS3, many were waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to be released before they bought a PS3. The game is so popular that it moves consoles. I was one of these people, I waited till the announcement of the game and then I immediately bought a PS3. However to my dismay, the game was delayed several times and I ended up waiting a long time before I finally got my hands on the game.

The game's presentation is top notch, everything looks crisp and smooth. The menus looked great but this came at a cost of functionality, they are a bit awkward to navigate around.

The cars and tracks in this game look phenomenal. Old favourites like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest make a return, as do other classics, but there are also new additions which are also very good like Periphery. The tracks are detailed and beautiful, the lighting is great and really immersive.

The cars, however are a bit of a let down. There are premium cars which take up 20% of the 1049 cars and they are the most detailed and beatiful cars in the game, with a very accurate cockpit view and exterior view. So detailed are the premium cars that you can see the rivets and the stitchings in the cockpit on some cars and every one of them are there, just like in real life. When sitting next to the standards cars, the premium cars really make the standard cars look like PS2 models.

Although the standard car's looks are a let down, they still sound and drive great. This is where Gran Turismo 5 really comes into it's own. The cars handle great and feel real, you can feel when the car is about to lose grip and the weight of the cars. I have spent days playing this game and it is awesome every time. There are also plenty of events to race through and regularly updated seasonal events along with online multiplayer.

If you're looking for a great racing game with heaps of replay value, then look no further. This game is a must have for all car fans.

"I'm amazed"
5 stars"

A lot of bad things have been said about GT5, like premium and standard cars, pixelly shadows, etc. No matter what they say, they're all wrong, this game is amazing.

Cars: We are told we have 1000 cars, and as usual in GT, we have 50 Skylines, and things which reduce to car list to about 800, and that's good compared to the 500 different cars in GT4. 200 cars have interior view, Superb. We have licensing from some big manufacturers and race series. RM your cars, or simply give them body kits, the car list is just amazing. 10/10

Tracks: There are only 20 different tracks, but 70 variations, this means they drop famous GT circuits. Including Midfield, Apricot Hill, Swiss Alps, Tahiti Maze, and GT4's El Capitan. The new original track, Cape Ring is a massive 3–4 minute course with at least 5 variations, sounds good aye, but no, the track is boring and doesn't flow very well. However, we now have another European circuit: Monza, as well as the Nurburgring and Circuit De La Sarthe from GT4, both of the last two having weather/day night cycles. So these 20 circuits offer fun for eternity (Also apparently PD are going to release some other tracks as DLC). And then we have a course editor, it has 7 different locations and endless possibilities in layouts. 8/10

Graphics: Amazing, the day/night cycles are very good, as is the attention to detail. This is all brought down by one ting sadly, and this is why. 800 of the car list's 1000 cars are just the same 3D models from GT4 and GT3 in HD, so they have lower detail, and no interior view. Sadly this means we have many moaning about it, but other than that the graphics are spectacular. 9/10

Gameplay: The same old computer AI, but they have improved. Now the AI will overtake you instead of ramming you, some even take different lines, and sometimes crash by themselves, but they are waaaay too generous, they slow down massively as soon as you're side by side with them. Now to the driving part, a 10/10 for the realistic physics, each car feels different, even two of the same car with a different name. Some cars will slide like lunatics, and some will stick at any speed on full throttle. And at night, as in real life, the track cools down offering less traction… Or something, and the engine cools down giving better performance. So for PD, this is massive improvement. 9/10

GT Life: This is GT mode, and we have a simply badly laid out mode, B spec can't be used for a race in A spec, so we have to A spec the 3 24 hour races. The Special events and Licenses are patchy, meaning we have a lot of easy to gold challenges and a few near impossible tests, and then there's grinding. We have to constantly redo races to go up levels because PD didn't plan it out so we'd end up at level 30 after Extreme events, so we have to redo races for XP. This is the biggest let down in the game, so for this. 6/10

However, the game is still 10/10 for me.

Great graphic, beautiful view/scenery, realistic cars, bla bla bla, but… booooring. This is just an eye candy game. But as for the fun-factor, comparing this to other racing games, NFS (Most Wanted, Carbon, Undercover, Hot Pursuit), Burn Out and Split Second are much more fun to play.

"Fantastic Driving Sim"
5 stars"

I couldn't wait for this game to arrive from Mighty Ape once I pre-ordered it! And it didn't disappoint! This has to be one of the most fun and realistic driving games available, and the attention to detail is mind blowing. Combined with a G-25 wheel setup you can be sure of hours of fun, and the inclusion of the WRC cars of 2010… Wow. Not to mention the amount of cars available to fill your garage with. Just one hell of driving game, and if you like driving and you don't have this one yet, its worth buying a PS3 for!! Have fun!

"A 10 out of 10 simulator in a 5 out of 10 game"
4 stars"

Gran Turismo 5 is incredible at what it does best, recreating a highly realistic driving experience on a home console. The physics that have gone into this game are mind boggling, the graphics are borderline photo realistic, and if you are looking for a game that simulates racing in real life, then there really is no other choice. That aside, GT5 does have some issues. I cant quite put my finger on it, but it feels as tho something is missing from this release, it lacks the flair and excitement of previous releases and after awhile, dare I say it can become “boring”. This may have something to do with the repetitive feel of the races. Now dont get me wrong, I am a HUGE Gran Turismo fan, but some strange design choices hamper the full GT experience. Example: There are premium cars and standard cars, the premium cars have fully modeled interiors working windscreen wipers and headlights and highly detailed exteriors, whereas the standard cars have none of this. Now this is fine considering the time it would of taken to fully model all 1000 cars in the game, but it is beyond me why a multi million dollar Bugatti Veyron, is a standard car, whereas a Mini Cooper is a fully detailed premium car. WTF? That aside, and some other annoying issues, great simulator, above average game.

"The best"
5 stars"

The graphics are simply unbelievable. The 3 best things about the game are the graphics, the damage that they finally added to the game and that there are more cars to race against these 3 things make it way more fun and that is why if you have a PS3 you just need to have it.

"Best racing simulator ever"
5 stars"

I bought GT5 for my husband as a Christmas present and have probably played it more than he has! The graphics are amazing and I found it really intuitive to play.

It's great how you can use the ‘old style’ arrow buttons to steer if you aren't a fan of the joystick controllers. You can really feel the difference in acceleration depending on how hard you push the x button which makes it very realistic.

I also really like the variety of tracks, the addition of drifting and the addition of gokarting. There are hundreds of hours of entertainment here if you want to do career mode, or equally lots of fun to be had using the Arcade mode setup.

"Good addition to the Gran Turismo franchise."
5 stars"

Most of the ‘reviews’ on here are either previews made before the game was released, or reviews that people made after playing the game for a couple of hours. So now that I have finished Gran Turismo 5, I thought I would post my own review.

Basically GT5 is a good game. If you have played a Gran Turismo game before then you will know what GT5 is all about, so I'll just mention the new things, the pros, and the cons.

GT5 includes WRC, Nascar, and SuperGT, however neither is utilised overly well, and if you have played actually WRC games before, GT5's take on it will probably leave you very disappointed.

Graphically, GT5 is everything you would expect from the franchise. The cars look fantastic and the detail on the tracks is great. Even the ‘standard’ cars look just as good as most other games around these days.

The online racing, which is a first for the Gran Turismo series, is pretty average. There's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't do anything that amazing either.

Now the two big problems with GT5. First: standard cars don't have interior driving views. Obviously this won't be a problem if you use bumper cam of third person view, but if you do want to use the interior view, you can only do it for ‘premium’ cars, which means you will probably avoid ‘standard’ cars like the plague. Second: the AI. It drives relatively fast and all of that, but the problems arrive when it comes to you. The AI drivers don't seem to incorporate your presence when they are driving. They will bump into you, spin you out, and refuse to give you enough room to pass them regardless of how much faster you are than them.

So overall, although GT5 is a game which you can't help but feel could have been so much better, it is still an excellent game, and a great addition to the long standing franchise.

"Close, but the jury is still out."
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have six PS3s networked and the regulars who come around to race have been eagerly awaiting this game for couple of years now. Consequently finding the HUGE backward step in the loss of local LAN play has rather soured the joy of the new game. It'd be a different story if the online servers weren't kicking us off occasionally – 4 times one evening – but until this is sorted we have a pretty luke-warm reception to what is otherwise a truly wonderful game in every way.

I'm still pleased and it was still worth the $700-odd, because I am confident they'll fix the server issues, but for now I can't quite say it's perfect.

"Great Racer with a Few Quirks"
4 stars"

GT5 is a great driving Simulator. The cars feel right the tracks look amazing and it just has a general good feel to it, how ever GT5 falls short in the “Racing Department” with a few quirks like unrealistic damage sounds and “unaware” AI

"I personally liked it alot..."
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Another driving game added to my collection and there are somethings I liked and some not so much.
Graphics are superb, premium cars and tracks very good,…shadows cast on cars and tracks not so good, but early days as future updates will probably fix this, and it is not that noticable unless you focus on it. The Standard cars in the game are also low resolution with no cockpit view, only bonnet, bumper and chase views.
Engine sounds are ok in chase and bonnet views but lacking abit in cockpit view, ( slighlty disappointed in that). I can't comment on the music as I have that turned down.
Career mode and things to do are average to say the least. Money or credits earned from winning comes slowly at first with small amounts, but this increases as you move up in the difficulty levels.
Car selection is great, but you are forced to buy some cars that you might not even look at twice just to enter some races.
Car Tuning Shop ( my personal favourite ) take the car you have just purchased and added turbos', superchargers, engine upgrades, tyres and other options and you have just created yourself a monster…it's awesome…and it works too, as you can notice the difference in performance with each upgrade option, …but beware, choose your car carefully as the full tuing shop upgrade can cost 250,000 to 300,000. I personally spent this amount on a 1969 Z28 Camaro with everything the tuning shop had to offer as well as new mags, paint etc and it's an awesome machine…lol
Steering Wheel compatibility, I own a G27 wheel and pedal set and also a Driving Force GT wheel and pedal set…the DFGT is the better wheel for GT5 as I had a few issues with the G27 not working as good…but maybe future updates will fix this.
Online is great, alittle slow at times getting into the room to race but otherwise good.
This is only an amateurs basic review and there are alot of things not touched on, and as I said at the start I like it…until the next big thing comes along!…cheers

I really like the game, always have, if there is one criticism its that you need to get the steering wheel in order to experience the full potential. Online game play is not so popular in nz just yet but hopefully it will be!
