Having been in the city centre on the 22nd of feb I found this book a superb account of that terrible day. There is an array of visuals that illustrate well the damage that occured and the wording is well written. There is a good explanation of what happened in the city before during and after the shake as well as going into the science of the event. What will stay with you is the dvd footage. There is some very graphic footage of cashel street in the aftermath. Seeing all this and hearing the alarms and sirens brought the memory of the day back and was a very emotional watch.

I was living in Christchurch at the time of Sep&feb earthquake so I experience it all&many aftershocks till I moved away in June,an event of such devastation that I will never forget EVER.The Press have put together a brilliant book of such a tragic event, the photo's some of which I've never seen are amazing, the shock&scared looks on people's faces is so heart wrenching, the articles&comments brought me to tears,a beautiful book but such a devastating&sad event.
Being a Christchurch-born kiwi this book means so much to me. I'm still reading the book, the photo's are of a fantastic quality and I recognize so many buildings, the cathedral in the square, the cathedral in Barbadoes Street (where I was baptized) and so much more. The dvd made me quite emotional. What has happened to my beautiful hometown, I can't believe it. I will treasure this book and dvd for the rest of my life. A big thank you to The Press.
I ordered and paid for this book to be delivered to my Sister in Melbourne. Super cheap postage and very quick delivery. She was equally as impressed as I was. Terrific service to all at Mighty Ape. I am highly recommending you to everyone once again. Thanks very much, until next time.
Having lived through this day, I wanted something to show future generations. It's very well done. Brought back a lot of memories.
A beautifully written and illustrated magazine/book on the why/where and how of the devastating the Christchurch. Excellent pics and illustrations with a bonus DVD to suite. I have not used the DVD as yet but the book itself serves as an excellent reference guide.
This book was very informative. There was a lot of information about the quake that I hadn't known before. I learned so much more about the suffering and devastation.
An incredible telling of the stories in a narrative style that made reading the book so hard to put down. The accompanying DVD was incredible.
So glad I bought this, very powerful book.
Having lived in Christchurch for most of my life I was one of the many people to go through all of these earthquakes and the destruction they left behind. I moved to Perth a year ago and recently tried to explain the events to him. I found this extremely hard as it is impossible to describe the feeling associated with these earthquakes, the fear, the worry and the pain of watching your home city fall and also not knowing if loved ones are ok. These were an excellent way to show him, even if its not quite the same as being there. Thanks heaps Mighty Ape
The 22 February 2011, is a day to never forget; so much turmoil.
Shattered lives. Shattered and destroyed buildings.
Monumental upheavals.
A day like no other
Lots of great info and pictures. There is also a chapter on other fault lines e.g. Alpine fault etc. Bought it for my dad in the UK.
We are used to seeing disasters overseas, where we have that safety of distance. Not this time. Not in our own backyard. This book documents that time in all the stark reality.
Being away from home through this whole tragedy, makes this book an essential, emotional experience. God bless New Zealand.
This book is worth treasuring as someone who experienced it all – its a very good account of life in Canterbury on that terrible day – the 22nd February 2011. You should buy it for your children and grandchildren if you can't bring yourself to have it!
Having been though both the September and February earthquakes and the thousands of aftershocks inbetween, this book is a good record of the terrible devasation left behind. I have now moved out of Christchurch and have found that people who have not been through such traumatic events are quite shocked. The pictures and some of the comments certainly brought tears to my eyes again.
This book was an excellent way to show family and friends living in Australia what had happened to the beautiful city of Christchurch. The photography was of a very high level and I would recommend anyone wanting a record of this sad event to put away for future generations to buy a copy of this book and DVD. We purchased a 2nd copy after receiving it and sent it to our son so he could show his children in later years how the city he was born in and grew up in was destroyed by nature. Highly recommended.
A great book to remind us how lucky we are to still be here and to of survived three big earthquakes. Have a hanky ready when you watch the dvd :(
Many photos I have seen, so many more I had not. Kia Kaha Christchurch, we WILL rebuild
Very well put together and a must read for overseas cantabrians.
This book is really well written, after reading it I feel like I was there, just without being shaken up. It not only tells you information about the quake but also has stories from survivors. It tells you more about the quake and the people than you find out by watching the news. The DVD that comes with it just tops it all off, with never seen before news footage, and scenes of devastation, I was awestruck. When you start reading this and watching the DVD (which compliment each other) you will never put it down!
With many interesting stories and different photos, this book touches on the human aspect of the devastation of the earthquakes. Plus very interesting geological information. A must to keep or gift, with a bonus of some different images on the DVD
Well written, fantastic photographs, graphic detail and descriptions. A very fitting memoir
