"Absolutely the best zombie game EVER!!!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

With most zombie games, you see a single zombie, meh, a horde, bring it. With Dead Island, a single zombie, run like hell, a horde, too late you're dead. This game takes true skill and is actually a decent challenge for hardcore gamers yet beginner gamers will still thoroughly enjoy it :)

Really enjoyed this game and interesting take on the zombie genre but not for the Squeamish. Love the customised weapons and story and environments are interesting.

"Fun but not addictive"
2 stars"

I bought this game because I had seen gameplay of it and thought this looked awesome, but honestly it just doesn't hook me. It is fun to start off with, but soon you get tired of doing the same thing ten times over. If you are choosing whether to buy Riptide, then get that if you are in it for the multiplayer, but if not then go for the first Dead Island if you are a loner, because they are basically the same…

Amazing game and with it being the game of the year it includes all the DLC so is great value. The next installment is coming out soon so buy this now

"10/10 Must Have Game For Any HardCore Gamer Out There."
5 stars"

Ive Played my Zombie games in the past and none have been able to get me to sit down for hours non stop jamn, That was until i came acrross Dead Island the choices in this game are outstanding, good variety of zombies,Over 200 hours of game to for you to explore, massive maps, plus the best part is the weapons you can make over 100 different ones ranging from the guns to the home run baseball bat that can smash a zombie for miles and my fav will have to be the chainsaw. The characters are a big part of the game aswell each with there own unique abilites. I suggest anyone who is looking for a proper zombie game that put u to the edge of your set look no more.

"Zombies galore"

When you are a fan of Left for Dead, this is a natural progression. However, Dead Island takes a brilliant zombie game and with graphics that are breathtaking, Dead Island delivers an insanely addictive game

I was really put off when I first started playing Dead Island. The game uses the checkpoint save system which I absolutely hate. There's no manual saving. Even more egregious is the player respawn. When you die you don't reload the game, you simply respawn (I think there's a cash penalty each time). I really, really hate that and I wrote the game off because of it. But when the game of the year edition came out I gave it another chance and I find a lot to praise about it.

There are lots of quests. There's a survival element as you're required to constantly search for cash and other items, to sell or use in crafting or for quests. There are lots of different weapons and different quality of weapons so there's that “Oh cool!” moment when you find a good one. And there's a surprisingly good skill system including combat related skills, and survival type skills such as lock picking.

And of course there's the exploration and the zombies!

The graphics are nothing to write home about but they're good enough. And thankfully there's no auto health regen. You have to use a medkit or eat or drink to raise your health.

It's just such a shame that even on single player mode they insist on the player spawn. It's not as if there's some ingame explanation for it like the Borderlands New-U stations. That would have been something at least. You die and you just pop up again!

There's also the way items and containers constantly respawn which detracts from the survival element of desperately searching for supplies. And then there's the work benches that need cash for you to use. It's good that you need cash for something but they could have had some way of explaining why you need to pay to use a bench.

So it certainly has it's problems but I'm enjoying the quests, the exploration and the challenge and I certainly recommend giving it a go if it seems at all appealing to you.
