"Excellent, but..."

Don't get me wrong, I loved this book. The story is engaging and interesting. Seeing the future that these heroes wound up in was easily the most interesting part for me, and I'd love to see the events that lead to things being the way they are.

I will say though, that I didn't feel the story lived up to the hype. Which comes down more to how much hype surrounds it. When you hear of something constantly being referred to as the “greatest Batman story ever”, it makes for some big expectations…

Before reading this I watched the movie, they complement each other perfectly. I would highly recommend both to any Batman fan.

Frank miller fully transcribes hid dark stlye of story telling in this version of a retired batman that has to come out of retirement because gothem is starting to look a lot like the old days. With guest apperances with old friends and foes like the man of steel and the joker this novel will have you glued for hours.

"Puts the "man" back in Batman"
5 stars"

Frank Miller presents some of his best work in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Fans of the recent Batman films will enjoy this graphic novel for the subtle inspiration it has provided. It really it thanks to people like Miller that Batman became a serious and complex story. The campy days of Adam West and Burt Ward are long forgotten in quality graphic novels like this. Set after retirement, Batman returns to save Gotham again. A great read for all but the youngest readers.
