"Wouldn't run on my computer."
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have a new computer with good specs and a good videocard, but couldn't get this game to run on it. For some reason, I always have trouble with the “Games for Windows” like this one. Luckily, I bought this game on “sale” from MightyApe, so only lost $15 on this failure. I won't buy any “Games for Windows” again.

Games for windows live no longer exists waste of money for me. May work on older machines-

"Excellent modern air combat game"

I think this is an awesome game – probably the best air-combat game of any sort – arcade or simulation. There are a number of things that set this apart from the 3 other air-combat games I've played recently.

  1. The controls feel like they should for an arcade-like game. Although Il-2, HAWX, and Blazing Angels setup the X-box controller similarly, the responsiveness in this game is excellent, and made me actually enjoy manoeuvring.
  2. The game seems to have a story (at least from what I've played so far. It immediately made me think of Driver San Francisco or Splinter Cell Conviction, both games I thoroughly enjoyed.
  3. Cheesy or not, the ai communicates while your flying and in combat, making the game more immersive than, say, just being told what your mission is and going and doing it.
  4. Graphics are very enjoyable, and I found the sound decent as well. You have three camera views, but I use the third-person view.

Highly recommend this game if you don't want to get frustrated with the controls, and just want a game you can pick up and play. Best flying game I've played since my days playing Fury3 on my dad's old Pentium :-)

"It might not work, but it's good if it does"
3 stars"

I cannot say if this version of AC:AH will work or not, since GFWL no longer exists, but if you can redeem this physical copy on Steam, then it won't matter as Steam will download the latest version, which has had the GFWL part removed.

If it does work, you'll end up with a game significantly different than the rest of the Ace Combat franchise, that takes several gambles with the established gameplay, not always for the better. Many consider it the worst in the franchise, and I kinda agree with that, but only because the others are near-godlike in their quality, and this one is merely a good game.

Oh, and the multiplayer seems to be utterly, so if you're looking for that, you'll probably need to buy a few copies and play with friends.
