Description

The Star Wars saga will continue in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

As its name implies, The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time: Digital Molecular Matter (DMM), by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd. Paired with the powerful Havok Physics™ system, these new technologies create gameplay only possible on the new generation of consoles. DMM incorporates the physical properties of anything in the environment so that everything reacts exactly like it should - wood breaks like wood, glass shatters like glass, plants on the planet Felucia bend like plants on the planet Felucia would, and more. Meanwhile, as a revolutionary behavioral-simulation engine, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time.

Features:
  • During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
  • Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers - Force push, grip, repulse and lightning - throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
  • Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.
    • The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.
  • In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader.

"A BIG let down (sigh)"
If your a fan of the Starwars games like KOTOR (1 & 2) and think this is the next fun filled game in the line - ITS NOT!

This game is a BIG let down from those fun and entertaining games. Force unleashed is a go from point A to point B - kill everything fighting game. You will quickly become bored with the limited game play. Have a go with the demo - it will give you a feel for the game, just dont expect anything more.

On the up side - exelent grapics, movie cut sceens can be a little funny, as they try to carry a story to keep you interested. a real shame they didnt spend time making these sceens more interactive.

"Another "so-so" Star Wars game"
I have to admit when I saw the trailer and viewed a couple of the development diaries for this game, I thought the putting in extreme force powers would be a great addition to Star wars games. The key word here is ADDITION; being something that is added to enhance a successful formula. However, this game excludes some of the things that made a few prior star wars games good.

After seeing the revolution in AI and how the environment reacts to things in this game, I was eager to have a go, and downloaded the demo on xbox live. Unfortunately the game itself isn't as good at it makes it self out to be. Your character is driven to one linear path throghout the whole game, where you move forward, kill something using only one of two methods (lightsaber or force powers), then move on to the next thing you have to kill.

The biggest flaw this game suffers from is repetition. I found myself becoming bored half way through the demo because of the limited ways to dispatch enemies. Regardless of the great force power effects this game is just another (of many) Star Wars title that fails to impress. No rose among the thorns here, just another thorn.

"Blow the living daylights out of anything!!!!"
I mean come on who doesnt enjoy throwing a stormtrooper into each other!! This game is so fun!!! I love the fact that you can upgrade your character into a weapon of mass detruction and fully blow the living daylights out of every living (and not living) thing!!!! Great story line and after you finish the game and start again you keep the same powerups!! I have played It for hours and hours!!!! A must Buy!!!! 5/5 EXCELLENT

"The Force (not quite) unleashed"
A long time ago, in a gaming studio far far away.... LucasArts

I should have known better, an opening line that never bodes well, but I fear it is all I can think to say... Lucas Arts are a good game studio when it comes to some of their puzzle games, BUT their Star Wars games; oh my god can they be annoying sometimes... it's just to much formula (wash/rinse/repeat until everything is dead), and beating the end of level baddies is just a matter of figuring out what attacks work on them, and hoping you can stay alive long enough to do so, and if the AI thinks you're doing to well, it WILL see to it that you crumble under a barrage of attacks!!

The Vader battle at the end (I've done both endings) just put the final nail in the coffin for me, and ended in the destruction of one of my joypads by launching it accross the room... a lot of the time, the camera angles work well, but at others, like the infamous Vader battle, all they do is hinder you, as it locks the camera down!!

In the most part, this game isn't bad, but I can't help but think if it was anything other than Star Wars, it would be a decidedly average platformer that I wouldn't have completed, I played it purely because I wanted to see everything I could in this game, and because like any true Star Wars fan, cannot resist the lure of anything where I get to use a lightsaber!!

The gameplay does get better as you start learning the force powers, but to begin with, it's very slow going and just a "hack/slash" your way forward, the graphics are of course second to none, and the score is so iconic that I doubt there would be anyone who doesn't recognise it, and the cut scenes are impecable, as we would expect from Lucas Arts!!

Overall though, if we discount the Star Wars franchise, underneath the shell is a decidedly average venture into next gen gaming, that is VERY annoying in places, and I feel we were promised so much more... I know an awful lot of work went into this, but I can't help wondering if the budget wasn't all blown on the new story, because there are so many games that play so much better... if you're looking for the next Halo 3, or Bioshock, then this isn't going to be it... it lasted me 10 hours of gaming (if that) and I was glad to have finished it by the end, rather than wanting a sequel as I was with both of the aforementioned games... I know both of those other games I mention are first person, and this isn't, so maybe it's not a fair comparison, but all I want to say is: SW: FU could have been so much more than it is, it had so much potential... if you haven't already bought it, rent it for a week, because once you complete it, you won't be revisiting it.

"Jedi Gaiden"
I was expecting this to be the new entry in the Jedi Knight series of Star Wars games. I was disappointed to find that this is just a Ninja Gaiden clone, set in the Star Wars universe. The demo is so incredibly linear its not even funny. Seeing the tech demo's where they show how wood shatters and glass breaks properly, then the disappointment of hitting a droid with your lightsaber and it just plays the same scripted dying scene over and over.

Lightsaber fights in this is terrible, nothing like in Jedi Outcast. The force powers might make up for it a little bit. I so wanted to like this game but so far it looks really average.
