5 stars "The new contender in the RPG World!"

This game looks like a cross between Oblivion and Warcraft, one of the creators actually made oblivion and morrowind. As a fan of RPG's this will be a must have for me.

"Promising"

From trailers and whatnot, Kingdoms of Amalur looks like a mix between Dragon Age, Fable with a sprinkle of Elder Scrolls. However, seeing as it is not out yet, only time time will tell whether it will become great or another failed RPG falling short of greatness.

5 stars "My most anticipated title of 2012."

First off, can we agree on getting that two star review removed- It's a bit asinine for an arbitrary low score to be given to a game because someone doesn't know what it is.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the beginning of a new exciting RPG series created by American developers Big Huge Games. It's the first of two announced games the second being an MMO which is set in the future but in the same kingdom of Amalur.

Amalur is a world lovingly created through the writing of acclaimed fantasy novelist R.A Salvatore (The Highwayman, Drizzt), art by Todd MacFarlane and the world building skills of former bethesda (Creators of Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout) members.

It's an RPG but with a twist. It has a large action orientated focus when it comes to combat and a hugely free and diverse way of building your character. Instead of being made to choose which type of character to create at the beginning before you've played your character evolves and changes in real time as you decide how you wish to play using the diverse range of weapons and magic's of the game.

This is the most exciting part of the game for me, whilst being a true RPG in all senses, with character growth, choice and stat building, looting and everything you love. The gameplay looks to not be at all repetitive and boring but more visceral and engaging. This combined with the pedigree of the team behind this hugely promising game makes it my most anticipated title of 2012.

I can't wait to get into this game.

4 stars "More Fable 2 than Oblivion"

With the head designer from Morrowland and Oblivion making this game, i was looking forward to a similar style game – and was a little disappointed.

This game is more “Fable 2” than oblivion, in all ways. Graphic style and game play – but this is not a bad thing. “Reckoning” is a fun and enjoyable game. not overly difficult or complex, and you will be playing like a pro before the very good tutorial finishes (about 1hr)

Fighting is “fable” like, with two weapon buttons, and using timed button taps to perform different moves (which you learn as you level)

Its reviews from IGN 9/10 and GameSpot 7.5/10 (both have video reviews) sum it up nicely – I give it a solid 8.5.

5 stars "enioyable"

I bought this game because I generally like RPG's and after playing Skyrim any RPG is going to have to lift the bar to compete with this. Initially I wasnt too impressed but after playing it for a couple of hours amd finding it quite njoyable. Graphics and gameplay are a lot like Fable (which I enjoyed) and to be honest enjoyment factor for me is what its all about not the science of graphics, interface and plot.. Enjoy the game for what it is and dont try to analyse too much

Reviews

“…I'll come right out and say it: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be discussed when Game of the Year 2012 rolls around. It has brought the conversation about what combat can be in the role-playing genre to the forefront and sets the bar exceptionally high for its future contemporaries in the genre. But don't let its competition-shaming gameplay lull you into think that that's all this game has to offer, because that's just gloss on an overall package that's bound to impress the RPG faithful. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning isn't the perfect game. Its random technical hiccups and inconsistent art style certainly holds it back from even higher levels of greatness. But no matter what you're looking for, whether it be amazing gameplay, immersive storytelling or perhaps a riveting new world to explore as you fully customize and re-customize your character at will, Reckoning has it all. And after I jump back into my own game to clean up all of the optional stuff I didn't do, I sense I'll want even more. And yes, so will you.” 9/10 – IGN

“..Deep, polished gameplay wrapped around an interesting and engulfing universe with all of the bells and whistles RPG and action game lovers crave spread across enough content to keep you busy for months.” Gaming Nexus

“…Though it leans a little too heavily on well-trod genre conventions, there's no denying that Reckoning has a whole lot to offer in terms of sheer breadth. Similarly, though the challenge tapers off dramatically toward the end, its combat is welcoming, gratifying, and hypnotic.” 82/100 Game Trailers

“…If you love any or all of the following – RPGs, rich fantasy worlds, action games – Reckoning is a rich action RPG with a deep narrative, even deeper character customization, and plenty of content right out of the box. Go get this game.” Team Xbox
