"…This is the war on perhaps the broadest scale yet. There are schematics for some of the weaponry, images of the posters and such used, the blast radius of the nuclear weapons dropped on Japan, and so on from there. There’s almost a disturbing amount of detail involved in this, the kind of details that haven’t been revealed in previous discussions of World War II. Issues of intelligence, of the German U-Boat tactics–ever heard the term “rudel tactics” before? It comes up here!–and a whole lot more come into play, as facilitated by this new display system.
Sure, it’s still another World War II documentary. We know how it ends. But it’s still one of the most impressive and most information-packed displays of this war that has ever been put out, and frankly, I’d love to see them use this format with other wars as well. World War I, the American Civil War, and so one down the line would likely benefit from this unusual approach…
