"Very good monitor for its price!"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Pros:

  • Cheap but doesnt look it
  • Great design and piano black finish
  • Full HD 1080p
  • 24" is a good, convenient size

Cons

  • Aspect ratio of 16:10 stretches most games which are for 16:9
  • Only one slot for HDMI
  • Limited user settings for color management
  • Average speakers

Summary – As you can see from the pros listed above, it looks great. Its got a brilliant design and looks flash. Its very affordable and 24" is a great size if you want to keep it on your desk and play. I was initially planning to wall mount it, but yeh it was a bit too small for it but i dont mind having it on my desk as my computer monitor instead and switching to PS3 when required.

The main problem is that despite it being full HD 1080p, it has an aspect ratio of 16:10. An interesting choice from ViewSonic. This leads to most games out in today's market (720p meant for 16:9 aspect ratio) being stretched and as a result, graphics arent as great. However, we are now entering a period where more and more 1080p games are coming out (GoW III, FF XIII) and as a result any games coming out in future should look great.

Another possible solution is to go to Display settings in your PS3 and untick every resolutio apart from 1080p and the lowest one which cannot be unticked ( I think it is 576p) which definitely made Batman: Arkham Asylum look better.

You can also try putting your LCD to these settings: Contrast 75 Brightness 80 Sharpness 0

The other cons were, just one slot for hdmi, vga, dvi although you can easily buy 1hdmi to 3 adapters but I felt I should mention that. Also no RCA, just 3.5mm output and input. Again might need adapters like the RCA to 3.5 and vice versa. The last one was limited user settings for RGB, etc. Now most users might not even like fiddling with the settings but I like to. However its not as much of a problem as I usually end up with a worser picture after experimenting with the settings. The speakers are located at the back but I think its decent and you can always just plug in your speakers.

Verdict: Its a great looking LCD for its price. The 16:10 aspect ratio stretches out 720p games but just try the settings mentioned above and also remember we are now entering a period now where more and more 1080p games will be released.

"Best value monitor anywhere"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Basically, by looking at the specifications and reading various reviews on the internet, all you should be concerned about is the price, and let's face it, $340 for a 24" HD 1080p monitor is amazing. Look at any of the others on Mighty Ape and you'll notice they're all a good chunk more expensive, and if you look in stupid chain stores (harvey norman), you will find absolutely horrible prices ($500 and up) for a similar monitor.

This monitor is excellent value for money. But that is not to say it is not an excellent monitor regardless of price, because it is. The important features are:

1080p – This is (at time of writing) the highest quality a monitor can get. This will display full HD xBox 360 games, Blu Rays, and PS3 HD games.

Multiple inputs – This means that you can plug in one HDMI input (360, PS3, Blu Ray Player etc), but it also has one each of VGA and DVI inputs which means you can plug in your PC or another console.

2ms Response Time – For most people, this specification doesn't really matter, however, for gamers this is a must. As indicated by the name “response time” this measurement is basically the time it takes between when you do something (pressing a button on a console controller, or moving your mouse) and how long it takes for the monitor to represent this movement. So, you press the left-click mouse button to click on a folder, it doesn't really matter. But, if you press left-click to shoot someone in the head online in Modern Warfare 2 or press B to bash in Halo 3, you will notice response time. And just so you know, 2ms is about as good as it gets with an LCD screen, and most screens are actually a lot worse (seriously, look at some of the other monitors), usually around the range of 5–8ms.

Built in Speakers – They're average, but in all fairness, all monitor speakers are fairly average. This is a monitor, not a home theatre system. But they do suffice for LAN parties if you can't be bothered taking your speakers everywhere.

Personally, I found the monitor to be aesthetically pleasing and most importantly it does everything you can throw at it. HD looks amazing, and you simply will not be able to go back after watching HD movies on this monitor. Compared to other similar performance monitors, this is simply the cheapest. It does everything (and often has a better response time) that other monitors do and is a whole lot cheaper.

If you need a monitor, these are perfect for all modern uses excluding 3D.

"Great screen, no issues."
5 stars"

I've been using this for a few months now and it's absolutely brilliant. I didn't know much about monitors but I read up on them, and this came in with some of the best features.

  1. It's max resolution is 1920 × 1080 which is perfect for movies and gives a crisp picture. I can watch a DVD from across the room and see every detail. It's also full HD, 1080p which means you can play BluRay movies as they're meant to be viewed unlike the 720p screens.
  2. The screens controls are easy to use and are unobtrusive as they are placed on the side of the screen. This also means you can change the settings without pushing your monitor all over the desk.
  3. The monitor has an HDMI port as well as the regular DVI port which appears on most graphics cards now. This means you can use the monitor with your high end gaming PC, or with your console or Bluray player.
  4. Lastly, games. I have had no issues at all with the monitor after playing games on it regularly during the time I've had it. Using it with a variety of games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Trackmania, there's a clarity and cleanness in the colour that is unparalleled on any other screen I've used.

I've moved this monitor between houses and rooms and it's always incredibly easy to handle despite it's size.

I can't think of anything I don't like about it.
