"Modern-day classic"
5 stars"

Based on the best-selling novel series created by polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, this is one of the most well-crafted RPG’s of its time. It’s hard to find any shortcomings, the gameplay is fun and addictive, the story is excellent, the game-world is vibrant and engrossing.

The enhanced edition has a lot of fixes. It also has additional quests which aren’t quite as good as the main story, but the main story alone is well worth the purchase. When you finish this game, the game saves DO affect the campaign of the Witcher 2. So if you are considering buying the Witcher 2, I would buy this also.

"I was stupid not to buy this earlier!!!!!"

At first glance here on the website it may not look like your cup of tea, which is what I thought. Then I checked out a few Youtube videos and I thought it looked interesting and at $24.95 it's no biggy if it's not that great. But guess what. Yeah I love this game!!

It's a really well balanced game with a plentiful story that does not compromise combat, great graphics for it's time and if you have a good gaming pc like me the visuals are even better cranked right up using the Nvidia control panel overrides, also having a Creative X-fi Extreme Gamer sound card and above to make use of EAX technologies the audio effects are awesome. And for Windows Vista and 7 you'll need to download Creative alchemy to enable EAX under these operating systems.

Now more about the game itself. You are Geralt Of Rivia, a Witcher, a slayer of monsters and protector of Humans who was injured badly in combat and suffers from amnesia. Because he suffers from amnesia Geralt must re-learn his combat skills, knowlege of herbs, potions and magic giving you the aspects of upgrading his abilities.

The maps are quite big with plenty of quests and achievements and dialouge which aren't boring and cheesy. The dialouge segments are a pick a path type of story gameplay adding to the replay factor as there are crucial parts of the game in which what you choose to say will determin the way the story plays out. For example you will be forced to choose who's side you take either “The Scoie'tel” an army of elves and dwarves fighting for freedom, “The Order Of The Flaming Rose” or to remain neutral which is a Witchers decree. These 3 paths are the major factor in the replay value, but also you will find yourself doing things differently each time you play it. I'm on my second playthrough now. And I can tell you now it took a long time to finish the first round so you get more than your moneys worth.

I'll leave it at that now. If your into RPG games just buy it, play it and if you like it then pre-order the Witcher 2. You can't go wrong.

"What "Oblivion" could have been but wasn't."

The Witcher is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. With a rich and innovative storyline based on an incredible amount of lore, The Witcher is one of the few games on the market where your choices really matter and affect game play down the line. The game play is unusual but fluid and intuitive, and lets you change both your combat style and your whole game style on the fly to suit your preferences.

My only complaint with the whole game was that the loading screens get a little long towards the end, and that the primary love interests were ugly and annoying. Ah, well. Nobody's perfect!

"Excellent game, 8/10"

Nearly as good as Dragon Age Origins. However the combat model is quite simple, mostly click-n-bash, unlike Dragon Age where combat can be quite tactical and require some planning.

It is also quite easy to complete story plot elements (quests) in an order the designers did not expect. This makes for an odd story experience in places. It is also possible to get stuck at impossible (or at least exceedingly difficult) points in the main story, because some item or side-quest was missed.

Despite the above plot issues, I am really enjoying this game, and hope it continues this good until the end!

"Immersive environment draws you in."

Although the graphics are a little dated now the game is still great fun to play, and will have you coming back for more. The only gripe I had was with the number of video ‘cut’ scenes that interrupt game play.

"An excellent intricate RPG "

I never played the pre-enhanced version or The Witcher 2 so I can only speak for the Enhanced edition and how it was after the likes of Skyrim. The Witcher came out in 2007 and the Enhanced edition in 2008 so I expected it to show its age a bit. It actually still looks really good and has a more classic western RPG feel than modern RPGs. There are multiple endings, lots of moral choices, different ways you can build the character with Magic, Sword skill and Alchemy. The main game takes 50–60 Hours to complete ignoring bonus content and you can easily play again and make different choices. There are a couple of things some people may be turned off by. The first is the combat which takes some getting used to and is pretty basic until you upgrade skills. The second is the camera. There are 3 camera options and if you don't like any of them you may not enjoy the game. Personally I didn't mind the combat and liked the over-the-shoulder camera option. At this price if you are a traditional Western RPG fan its definitely worth your time.

As far as modern games go, this is a good choice. Fairly enjoyable with a reasonably original story line, anybody who enjoys this genre of video game will appreciate The Witcher

"Fights, fun and fairly good scenery" Purchased on Mighty Ape

After an initial settling in process this game quickly started to take a hold. While it didn't have me up all night trying to achieve the next level in gameplay it did instill a desire to come back to it whenever I could manage the time. It has rapidly become a favourite for the whole family allowing for a measure of good natured competition. We are all looking forward to the forthcoming sequel.

"A quite good RPG that still hold up."

Given that its 2011 the witcher game is still quite good visually, some scenes in it a very strong aesthetically and it is still good value for money. Reminiscent of a medieval version of Clint Eastwood in “Unforgiven”. I get why this was popular. Find the cartoonish visual representations of the village elders and priests irritating when the dialogue tends to be more sophisticated.
