Ip Man
Ip Man is a 2008 Hong Kong martial arts biopic that is based on the life of Ip
Man, the celebrated martial arts master of Bruce Lee, and the first to teach the
Chinese martial art of Wing Chun openly. The film focuses on events surrounding
Yip that took place in Foshan between the 1930s to 1940s during the Second
Sino-Japanese War. Directed by Wilson Yip, the film stars Donnie Yen in the lead
role, and features fight choreography by Sammo Hung. Ip's two sons, Ip Chun and
Ip Ching, along with several Wing Chun practitioners also appear in the film. Ip
Man is the first film to be based on the life of the martial artist.
Ip Man 2
Picking up from the hugely successful Ip Man, Ip Man 2 sees Donnie Yen return
in the titular role as he immigrates to Hong Kong in 1949 after prevailing
against the Japanese of the first film. Battling rival Kung Fu masters and
oppressive British overlords, Ip Man must overcome his biggest challenge yet as
he attempts to bring his discipline of Wing Chun martial arts to the world.
