I had this on VHS (yes I'm that old). WHen I was 5 and I just loved every second of the documentary. It was great how it moved me in so many ways. Made me realise how precious life it. And, I cried from the last episode. It's also a great study tool to reference from if need be for University students who are going into Pre Med.
I have only watched a small about so far, but my very bright and inquisitive 9 year old son was glued to it. Fascinating for all ages and stages and so incredibly educational and enlightening.
Life inside the most complex mechanism on earth – our bodies – is explored and explained in this ground-breaking BBC TV series. The latest imaging techniques allow us to travel through veins, down fallopian tubes and around the brain, to understand how our bodies work. Our minds, spirits and emotions are celebrated too in this compassionate series which charts not only life but death.
We find how, every second, a world of miraculous, microscopic events take place within the body. We see how the drama of conception activates the most sophisticated life-support system on earth…see how, in four years, the new-born child learns every survival skill…and take a peek inside the raging hormone-driven roller-coaster better known as adolescence. We discover that ageing is far more complex – and fascinating – than mere decline, and how, even in death the body reveals remarkable secrets.
This fascinating piece of television, with all the added benefits of DVD, also features a special film on the making of the series, showing how specialist cameramen filmed extraordinary scenes inside the body and how computer graphics designers were then able to translate these medical scans into three-dimensional images. Although it’s a documentary, it does include frank biological detail, so it has been rated PG.
