When a family of raccoons discover worms living underneath the sod in Jeff and Nealy's backyard, this pest problem begins a darkly comic and wild chain reaction of domestic tension, infidelity and murder.
After 10 years of marriage, Jeff and Nealy Lang (Maguire and Banks) have an idyllic suburban home and a relationship on the skids. But, when a family of hungry raccoons ransacks their perfectly manicured backyard, Jeff becomes obsessed with eradicating the pests by any means necessary. Soon, the relentless rodents lead way to a battle of wits with a very meddlesome neighbour (Linney), and before he knows it, Jeff finds himself buried in an absurd mess of infidelity, extortion, organ donation and other assorted mayhem

“In the opening scene of “The Details,” a piano falls and crushes Tobey Maguire. As metaphors go, that’s an understatement for the sheer volume of bad karma Maguire’s not-so-happily married character racks up over the course of writer-director Jacob Aaron Estes’ long-awaited second feature. A story of domestic disintegration loosely inspired by events in Estes’ own life, “The Details” serves up scathing self-examination (featuring one of the least likable protags in recent memory) in the guise of carefree black comedy” Variety
“Instead of turning soft and squishy, this examination of karma gets tougher as it goes along. Its refusal to settle into a cozy niche may be commercially disastrous, but I take it as a sign of integrity.” The New York Times
“Top-shelf cast, headed by Tobey Maguire, slips into familiar grooves of adultery, lies, blackmail, and pet poisoning, it's the spectacular blow-ups and dressing-downs that make this such a nervy pleasure.” Village Voice
“The Details has a light tone, but it's anything but light in purpose. It's committed and passionate, one of the most perceptive and morally persuasive movies of 2012.” San Francisco Chronicle
