Space Battleship Yamato reviews

I didn't know quite what to expect from this film – I bought it on a whim while it was on special, and the trailer certainly looked like it would be an excellent display of CGI if nothing else. I was pleasantly surprised in that the story was actually quite well constructed and capably told – it did feel a bit rushed at times, but that is inevitable when condensing TV series episodes into a single feature film. I have not seen the original series', but reading about them I believe this contains the best highlights to string together a reasonably solid narrative. There are the inevitable elements of simplified sci-fi that require you to suspend disbelief, so one cannot take it too seriously, but the character development does draw you in to the extent that you do not really notice while watching. Overall a very satisfactory purchase.
