Firstly and most importantly the sound of these earphones are brilliant. Delicious highs and quite good bass, nothing incredibly pounding but I think the balance is just right.
The MX 980's visually pleasing and come with a few extras including a nifty carry case.
Now the only reason these aren't perfect is because they are quite big.
I don't exactly have large ears, but they don't seem to fit quite right. When I hold them in I can tell there is a lot of bass and low mid that I am otherwise missing, and here is where they sound truly stunning and what you're paying the extra buck for.
It is just a shame they are not a better fit, because I don't really want to have to hold them in. Regardless though, they sound brilliant.
