"'Real' WW2 action game."

The one thing that strikes me about Brothers in Arms D-Day is its ability to make you think.

BIA forces the player to abandon their conception of how a first person shooter should work. For one thing, the missions in this game are hard to complete in the ‘Rambo style’. Players cannot simply careen around the battlefield, storming machine gun nests and assaulting tanks head-on. Tactical nouse and the ability to use your allied soldiers and tanks will win the day always. The player becomes more than a soldier with a smoking gun, but a commander with a brain.

The masterful control you have over the battlefield is not however translated into the physical control of your character, which is clunky, and receives a pass mark because of the PSP's limiting hardware. At times you will struggle to shoot straight, taking precious seconds to line up your weapon correctly.

Despite the flaws in control this game serves up slick presentation through the campaign mode, itself very sizeable. Visuals are good, and the SFX during gameplay are impressive.

Overall a game worth purchasing for the psp owner looking for more than a run and gun gaming experience, but instead something demanding a little extra thought.
