I was sceptical about how one of my all time favourite games Crysis would
translate onto the console, as being known the world over for its tremendous
need for excessive amounts of hardware on the PC; the type of power a console
could not hope to come close to, and somehow I have come away impressed.
Graphically this is the best PS3 game Ive seen so far, the anti-aliasing is
very good compared to a lot of the games that have come out recently (Black Ops
in particular) which proved to be extremely disappointing. The lighting is
brilliant, and the water is just as captivating as it was in the first game.
I could drone on, but in essence, compared to Crysis 1 on PC, not as good, but
in terms of console gaming, the best Ive seen.
When it comes to the game-play this game should not be taken for its
attention to reality. On one hand the physics in the game are brilliant, and
I stand impressed with the way the characters and objects interact the
environment. Throwing around objects feels extremely realistic, and when sliding
around to defect enemies down long hallways is ridiculously fun. In particular
I noticed how the distance you can slide depends on the slope of the surface,
making sliding down staircases stupidly amusing. If your looking to buy a game
for its realistic weapons, this isn't the game for you. Although they all feel
really nice to use, and all have recoil, and are even upgradeable on the spot
which is awesome, but when looking down the scopes there is little to no
movement. Now I assume this is to do with the fact that your wearing a super
suit, but in the multiplayer particularly in the Sniper class, its very easy to
shoot accurately. The way they have set the controls to work your nano suit are
great, accept for trying to reach Select while in a tough game situation which
can get irritating, I have no complaints about it otherwise.
The story is great, and I don't really want to ruin it, so ill leave the
details out, but in summary, its mostly independent from the first, and new
players will get along just fine with it.
The multiplayer is some of the most fun Ive had online since Counterstrike
Source. The easy to use weapons, coupled with the nano suits abilities, and the
inner city maps, make for one of the best online FPS experiences out there. If
one were to draw comparisons, I would definitely have to bring up Halo, because
that's the only thing remarkably close. If your a COD player, and buy this,
give the different menu system and perks etc time to sink in, some of my friends
found it hard at first, but a few hours later were having the time of their
life. If your looking for Halo on the PS3, this is as close as your going to get
at the moment.
Overall, the graphics are the best Ive seen for a shooter on the console, the
game-play is ridiculously fun, the multiplayer is brilliant fun.
This is one of my favourite games I own on the PS3, and I recommend anyone
who is a FPS fan to try it out, and even if your confused at first, stick it
out, its worth every minute.
