When I first heard of this game it sounded interesting, almost like a frozen “dead space”… But its not..its more of a “what the hell? but okay this does give you a fright” kind of a game.

The game is set in a nuclear ice-breaker where there appears to be no remaining crew members, but you soon find out this is not the case. The game is first person but the character is quite slow to move around and to re-load weapons, though this is made to bring emphasis of the temperature and how cold it is..it can still be annoying in the midst of fighting any enemy.

Also because it is so cold, you must regularly find new sources of heat (e.g. lamps and fires) to replenish your health and proceed in the game. You can also find bodies with a red glow on them and are able to do a “mental echo” that lets you relive the victims last moments – in an effort to save them.

But overall I was more confused with the storyline and its theme and annoyed at the characters movements than actually being drawn into the game, as in random moments you are suddenly taken into the past but still in the same location, in an effort to provide more understanding of the storyline.

If your into a game that gives you “frights” with nice looking visuals but a slow to gain arsenal of weapons and an in depth storyline – then this is the game for you but if not, maybe look somewhere else…

I saw this on special, and considering buying it. After asking about it on a gaming forum, I was recommended to buy it. I'm not a regular horror game person, so this was a trip into uncharted waters for me, but despite this, the gameplay was good enough to keep me interested, although confusing at times. The game is set on a derelict Soviet Icebreaker, caught and imprisoned in an Iceflow, and forgotten in time. You must solve the mysteries behind the ship in order to escape, and to return to how things should be. Combat and survival is interesting, your health being your body heat, which you must warm up using whatever heat sources are available, while the enemies and environment will attempt to freeze you. The ability to jump into the past, and change the last moments and actions of some of the crew to open up ways forward in the present is also an interesting twist.

Sadly, despite being a good game, I have had to subtract a star for the biggest problem, and piece of criticism, one that stops it short of being 5 stars – plot coherency.

As you move throughout the ship, you encounter flashbacks of various crew members, and some sidestory which has little to do with the current plot, but mirrors whatever flashbacks you are experiencing. And the final boss fight and final choice don't answer much, and the opening scenes leave more questions than answers. Overall, once you finish the game, its more of a “Ok, what was that all about-”. Due to it originally being designed and made by a Ukrainian based game company, I suspect that some of the story has been lost in translation.

One final piece of warning – the game engine isn't well optimized, and as such, you need a PC higher than minimum specs. It was basically unplayable on my old computer, which was slightly above minimum specifications.

But overall, if your looking for a decent plot and story, you might want to look elsewhere. If your looking for a new gameplay experience, and don't mind a small and slow growing arsenal of weapons, or a plot that leaves more questions than answers, then its worth taking a look at.
